Handling Run – Leo

Throughout the handling run scene the director uses various camera angles and techniques to show suspense, and danger as well as emphasise other important moments in the scene. One example of this is when Burt is riding his motorbike on a test run we can see that the camera is shaking. This use of shaky cam helps to emphasise the great speeds at which Burt is travelling, making the camera shake like this also gives the viewer a feeling of suspense as we are reminded of the dangers Burt faces and the instability of his own bike. Another example of a camera technique is when Burt is getting ready for his test run and we are shown a slow motion shot of him putting on his goggles. This use of slow motion helps emphasise the importance of this moment by prolonging it, as it is Burt’s first chance to race on the flats. I think that during this scene the director effectively used both shaky cam and slow motion to show suspense and emphasis without distracting us from what was happening in the movie.
