one method that helped engage me with “The Great Gatsby” by F. Scott Fitzgerald was narration. the book is narrated by Nick Carraway, a “bond man” who has recently moved to west egg, next to Gatsby.
Nick introduces both himself and the book by telling the reader some advice he was given by his father,
“Whenever you feel like criticizing any one,” he told me, “just remember that all the people in this world haven’t had the advantages that you’ve had.”
this is then followed up with
“after boasting this way of my tolerance, I come to
the admission that it has a limit.”
i find that this quote helps introduce both Nick as a person and his narration style, (say personality + narration style) this along with a short explanation of his life allows the reader to (move on??) and lets Gatsby be the main focus of the readers attention
should be 800-ish words
